Apart from the dearness allowance and dearness relief that shall be reinstated for more than 1 crore central government staff and pensioners, there is another relief. This is pertaining to the relaxation in the provisions for Children Education Allowance (CEA) as per the Office Memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training.

The decision has been taken after CGE parents' approached the DoPT for relaxing the norms in relation to CEA. They said they have been confronting problems in getting documents associated with CEA from schools amid the pandemic.
This Department has been receiving several references/ queries from Central Government employees stating that in the prevailing pandemic situation, result/report cards were not sent to the parents by the School through SM S / email, and the fee is also being deposited online, and the parents are having difficulty in claiming CEA", said the DoPT.
Now amid the pandemic, the CEA claims can be made even through self-certification from employees. "The matter has been considered and it has been decided that the CEA claims may also be considered through a self-certification made from the concerned employees or through printout of e-mail/SMS of result/report card/fee payment, in addition to the prescribed modes of claims only for the academic years ending March, 2020 and March, 2021," read the memorandum from the DOPT office.
In respect of the restoration of the dearness allowance, it is said that central government employees shall get all the previous 3 installments in the month of September. DA shall be given out to CGE at 28 percent as against the current 17 percent, taking the total hike to be 11 percent.
