GST Collection Above Rs 1 Lakh Crore For The 2nd Straight Month In December
For the month of December, the gross GST (goods and service tax) revenue collected by the government rose to Rs 1,03,184 crore, as per data released on Wednesday. While the revenue grew by 9 percent on a year-on-year basis, it remained flat when compared to the previous month of November.
It is, however, the second straight month that the GST collection has crossed Rs 1 lakh crore mark. In November 2019, the GST collections were at Rs 1,03,492 crore.
Of the total collection in December 2019, CGST comprised Rs 19,962 crore, SGST Rs 26,792 crore, IGST Rs 48,099 crore (including Rs 21,295 crore collected on imports) and cess is Rs 8,331 crore (including Rs 847 crore collected on imports).
The government said that GST revenue from domestic transactions in the month of the review was impressively 16 percent higher than December 2018.
In September and October 2019, the collection fell by 2.7 percent and 5.3 percent, respectively, from their corresponding previous months.
