Gandhinagar, December 7: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has expressed concern over India's modest contribution to the global meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry, which currently stands below one percent. Unlocking Indias MICE Potential: Gujarat Leads the Way

India's Share in the Global MICE Industry

Patel highlighted that the global MICE industry is valued at nearly USD 800 billion, yet India's contribution is less than one percent. In contrast, this sector's share in the global GDP is approximately 1.5 percent, while in India, it accounts for a mere 0.2 percent. The Chief Minister stressed that the MICE industry generates 40 percent of the revenue and 8 percent of the employment within the tourism sector, indicating its immense potential for growth.

Gujarat's Focus on MICE and Conference Tourism

Recognizing Gujarat's potential as a MICE destination, Patel announced the state government's efforts to develop conference tourism. He pointed out that Gujarat has successfully hosted numerous national and international-level events, including the prestigious G20 summit, making it an ideal location for MICE activities. The state government aims to capitalize on this potential and position Gujarat as a leading state in the MICE sector.

Launch of ICBP Gujarat State Chapter

During the event, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and dignitaries from the India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICBP) officially launched the ICBP's Gujarat state chapter. This initiative signifies the state's commitment to promoting and developing the MICE industry in the region.

Plans for New Convention Centers

Gujarat Tourism Secretary Hareet Shukla shared the state government's ambitious plans to develop at least 10 new convention centers in the near future. These centers will be established at strategic locations across Gujarat, including Kevadia, Kutch, Vadodara, Surat, and Ahmedabad. By creating world-class convention facilities, Gujarat aims to attract more MICE events and establish itself as a leading destination for business and professional gatherings.

Gujarat's focus on developing the MICE industry aligns with the state's broader vision of promoting tourism and economic growth. By leveraging its existing strengths and investing in infrastructure, Gujarat is poised to become a major player in the global MICE sector, contributing significantly to India's overall share in this lucrative industry.
