Addressing the FICCI’s National Executive Committee Meeting, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that the state is committed to playing a significant role in making India a USD 5 trillion economy. He also highlighted that Gujarat aims to become a USD 1 trillion economy by itself by 2030.
In a recent address at the FICCI's National Executive Committee Meeting (NECM), Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel declared his ambitious economic vision for the state. The Chief Minister stated that Gujarat is committed to playing a significant part in transforming India into a USD 5 trillion economy, while also setting its sights on becoming a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030.
Gujarat: The Growth Engine of India

Patel emphasized Gujarat's role as an economic powerhouse within India, often referred to as 'the growth engine of India'. He highlighted how under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and through the adoption of Atmanirbharta or self-reliance, India has risen to be the fifth largest economy worldwide. This achievement is due in no small part to states like Gujarat which contribute significantly towards national GDP.
Gujarat’s Economic Contribution
The Chief Minister provided some impressive statistics highlighting Gujarat’s contribution to Indian economy. Despite making up just six percent of the country's geographical area, it contributes eight percent towards the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Additionally, it accounts for eighteen percent of industrial output and holds thirty percent share in exports. These figures underscore not only Gujarat's importance but also its effectiveness as an economic driver within India.
Remarkable Growth Over Two Decades
The robustness of Gujarati economy can be further illustrated by its remarkable growth over two decades. According to data released by FICCI, Gujarat’s GSDP has seen an exponential increase from Rs 1.27 lakh crore to Rs 16.19 lakh crore during this period.
Ambitious Goals for Future Growth
Gujarat now aims even higher with plans set forth by Patel who said that "Gujarat is determined to play a major role in making the country a $5 trillion economy and the state aims to become a $1 trillion economy by 2030." This ambitious goal is indicative of Gujarat's commitment towards not just its own economic prosperity but also that of India as a whole.
Gujarat: A Hub for Fortune 500 Companies
Subhrakant Panda, President of FICCI and managing director of Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Limited (IMFA), highlighted another feather in Gujarat’s cap. He stated that Gujarat is home to over one hundred Fortune 500 companies, further cementing its status as an important hub for business and industry.
In conclusion, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's address at the NECM provided valuable insight into Gujarat’s significant contributions to India's economic landscape. The state has shown remarkable growth over two decades and with ambitious plans set forth for future development, it continues to play an integral role in driving India towards becoming a USD 5 trillion economy. With the presence of numerous Fortune 500 companies within its borders, Gujarat indeed stands out as an influential player on both national and global economic stages.
