Haircuts, Shaves to Cost More in Mumbai, Pune & More; Maharashtra Barber Community Announces 20% Price Hike
Haircuts, shaving and other grooming services have become more expensive across Maharashtra after the state's barber community announced a revision in service charges, citing rising operating costs and increasing prices of salon supplies. The new rates came into effect on Saturday and are expected to be adopted by a large number of neighbourhood salons in cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Thane and other urban centres across the state.
Haircuts, Shaves to Cost More in Mumbai, Pune & Across Maharashtra
The price revision follows a decision by the Maharashtra Nabhik Mahamandal, which represents a significant section of the state's barber and salon community. The organisation has recommended a roughly 20% increase in charges for several commonly used grooming services as salon owners grapple with rising expenses.

Maharashtra is home to more than one lakh small barber shops and salons, many of which are expected to implement the revised pricing structure over the coming weeks. The organisation has clarified that the new rate list primarily applies to local and neighbourhood salons, while premium and luxury grooming chains, which already charge substantially higher rates, remain outside its ambit.
New Haircut and Grooming Rates Announced
Under the revised structure, the cost of a standard haircut has been fixed at Rs 180, while shaving will now be charged at Rs 120. Customers opting for beard trimming will pay Rs 150.
Other grooming services have also witnessed an upward revision. A head massage will now cost Rs 180, while hair washing has been priced at Rs 120. The starting price for facial treatments has been set at Rs 700, while hair spa services will begin at Rs 600.
Why Have Salon Prices Increased?
Representatives of the barber community told media that the decision was driven by a steady increase in operating costs faced by salon owners. Prices of grooming products, consumables, equipment and other materials used in daily operations have risen considerably over the past several months.
