Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Launches Handicraft Expo 2025 to Promote Jodhpur's Artisans

Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the inaugural Handicraft Expo 2025 on Thursday. This four-day event is being held at the EPCH Trade Facilitation Center (TFC). Organised by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), this expo marks its first occurrence in Jodhpur, a key hub for handicraft production and exports.

Handicraft Expo 2025 Launched in Jodhpur

The expo, named Artifacts-2025, aims to boost Jodhpur's recognition in the domestic market. It seeks to bring the city's renowned handicrafts into local homes. During the opening ceremony, Shekhawat highlighted Jodhpur's global reputation for its wood, metal, leather, and bone handicrafts. He noted that these items have traditionally been export-focused.

Handicrafts for Domestic Market

Shekhawat mentioned that with rising disposable incomes among India's middle class, there is growing interest in purchasing such collectible items. "This fair is an endeavour and a trial to make handicraft items meant for export available to retail buyers and make them popular within the country," he stated. The event aims to make these export-quality handicrafts accessible to Indian consumers.

EPCH member HR Baheti emphasised the importance of gaining recognition in the domestic market. He pointed out that these handicrafts have always been intended for export. However, now is the time for them to gain significant recognition locally as well. The fair provides an opportunity for this shift by showcasing a wide range of products.

Diverse Product Showcase

Exhibitors at the fair will present various handicraft and decorative items. Categories include furniture, leather and metal items, interior and exterior accessories, bathroom accessories, decoration, lifestyle items, and more. This diverse range highlights the craftsmanship and creativity of Indian artisans.

The organisers have ensured that the fair caters not only to retail buyers but also to professionals from various sectors. Buyers from hotels, mall developers, architects, interior designers, and e-commerce sellers are invited to explore the offerings. This broadens the potential market reach for exhibitors.

The Handicraft Expo 2025 serves as a platform to bridge the gap between export markets and domestic consumers. By showcasing high-quality products locally, it aims to enhance appreciation for Indian handicrafts within the country. The event reflects a growing trend towards recognising and valuing indigenous craftsmanship in India.
