With Holika Dahan being celebrated today, India will observe the festival of colors, Holi, tomorrow, i.e., March 14, 2025. Police authorities in Mumbai and Hyderabad have issued strict advisories to ensure public safety and maintain law and order while allowing everyone to enjoy the festival harmoniously. These guidelines, when followed, will help avoid unlawful activities and celebrate Holi in a manner that respects the rights and safety of others.

Mumbai Police Advisory for Holi 2025

The Mumbai police have enforced an order that is effective from March 12 to March 18, 2025, and have laid several restrictions for citizens celebrating Holi and related festivals. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Akbar Pathan, has detailed the following prohibitions, and any individuals found violating these orders or assisting in their violation will face legal consequences under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. Here are the main points of the advisory:

• Throwing or spraying colored water, dyes, or powder on pedestrians is strictly forbidden.
• Preparing or throwing water balloons, whether colored or plain, is not allowed during the celebrations.
• Singing obscene songs or shouting offensive slogans in public is prohibited.
• Displaying gestures, pictures, placards, or any object that may offend decency, dignity, or morality is banned.

Hyderabad Police Advisory for Holi 2025

The Hyderabad and Cyberabad police have issued a strict advisory to ensure public safety during the Holi festival, with the order taking effect from 6 PM on March 13, 2025, to 6 AM on March 15, 2025, in Hyderabad, and from 6 AM on March 14, 2025, to 6 AM on March 15, 2025, in Cyberabad.

The key restrictions include:

• Spraying or smearing color on individuals without consent, or on vehicles, or properties in public spaces is strictly prohibited.
• To avoid disturbances and maintain road safety, riding in groups on two-wheelers or other vehicles is banned.
• Actions causing public inconvenience, annoyance, or danger will be strictly monitored.

Hyderabad Liquor Ban on Holi 2025

In an additional measure to prevent alcohol-related incidents, the Hyderabad Police have banned liquor sales on Holi day. As per an ET report, Rachakonda Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu stated that all liquor outlets will be closed from 6 AM to 6 PM on March 14, 2025. However, the report further stated that bars in bigger hotels and some registered clubs will be allowed to operate, provided they comply with the law. Any violation will lead to prosecution under Section 76 of the Hyderabad City Police Act, 1348 Fasli.
