Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana Promotes Sustainable Farming Practices for Environmental Protection

Haryana's Agriculture Minister, Shyam Singh Rana, recently visited a farm in Taraori, Karnal district. During the visit, he demonstrated advanced machinery for managing stubble. Rana stressed the need for sustainable farming to protect the environment and urged farmers to avoid burning stubble. He showcased the Happy Seeder and Super Seeder machines, which sow wheat while returning stubble to the soil as nutrients.

Rana highlighted the significance of pathways leading to fields, ensuring farmers have easy access to their lands. "We are committed to paving all farm roads across the state," he announced. Nilokheri MLA Bhagwandas Kabirpanthi accompanied him during this visit. The minister reiterated that proper stubble management benefits both farmers and the environment.

Stubble Management and Environmental Impact

Mixing stubble into the soil enriches it with essential nutrients, reducing the need for additional fertilisers. This practice also helps reduce pollution, keeping the air cleaner. The Haryana government is providing subsidies on machinery for stubble management, with 1,882 machines already subsidised. Rana assured that more machines would be available in the coming years.

"Just as food is essential for life, clean air is critical for our health. Burning stubble not only breaks the law but is also a moral offence against the environment," Rana stated. He urged farmers to use agricultural tools for better stubble management, thereby preventing air pollution.

Government Support and Initiatives

The Haryana government is actively supporting farmers in managing stubble by providing various agricultural tools at subsidised rates. Farmers are encouraged to adopt these modern technologies to make their farming more efficient. The government announced significant steps for crop residue management, resulting in a 29% reduction in stubble burning incidents this year.

Industries are being established near villages to utilise stubble, allowing farmers to generate additional income instead of resorting to burning it. An official statement mentioned these efforts as part of a broader strategy to support sustainable agriculture and improve air quality.

The minister's visit underscored Haryana's commitment to sustainable farming practices and environmental protection. By promoting advanced machinery and offering subsidies, the government aims to reduce pollution and enhance soil fertility through effective stubble management.
