Pod taxi system talks in Haryana as Suzuki and Glydways meet Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini

The Haryana government is in discussions with Suzuki Motor Corporation and Glydways on introducing an automated, driverless pod taxi system in urban centres. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reviewed feasibility, potential corridors, route planning, investment options, public-private partnership models, and implementation timelines, alongside the expected impact on commuter convenience and urban mobility.

The Haryana government is discussing plans with several firms to bring a pod taxi transit system to urban centres. A delegation from Suzuki Motor Corporation and Glydways met Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday. The talks reviewed a possible partnership for this urban transport project, as the state examined options for new mobility services.

Officials said the meeting covered core project details and early planning. These included corridor selection, route design, and funding approaches. The group also reviewed options under public-private partnership PPP and likely timelines. The Haryana government also considered how the pod taxi transit system could affect daily commuting and city travel patterns.

Saini said the Haryana government is committed to building better infrastructure and stronger transport services. Saini said, "the Haryana government is committed to developing world-class infrastructure in the state and providing better, efficient and future-ready transport facilities to citizens.\" The companies shared technical inputs and project needs during the discussion.

A Haryana government statement said the delegation presented details of the Glydways system. The statement described it as \"an advanced, automated, driverless and on-demand public transport system being developed using cutting-edge technology.\" The model uses small autonomous pods, designed to provide quick and safe trips for passengers.

Haryana pod taxi transit system aims for congestion relief and lower emissions

According to the statement, the project is meant to address growing traffic congestion in cities. It also aims to cut travel time and support an environmentally sustainable transport option. The plan is expected to improve traffic handling, raise energy efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions across key urban routes.

The statement also linked the idea to the central governments Urban Challenge Fund. Support is proposed to promote urban infrastructure and draw more investment through new initiatives. In this setting, officials said the pod taxi transit system could strengthen urban transport systems and support planned urban development.

Several senior officials and company representatives attended the meeting. Those present included Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar and Ashok Kumar Meena. Others included Shashwat, Pawan Choudhary, Kento Ogura, Chris Riley, Dave Manu and Alberto Fernandez Lopez. The Haryana government said discussions would guide next steps.
