The incoming MD & CEO is proposed to serve a three-year term, subject to regulatory approval. Jagdishan's existing tenure is due to conclude on October 26, 2026, making the RBI's approval a key step in determining the bank's next phase of leadership.

HDFC Bank Appoints Jimmy Tata as Executive Director

Alongside the succession process, HDFC Bank has also strengthened its senior management structure with the appointment of Chief Credit Officer Jimmy Tata as an Executive Director. The board has approved his appointment as a Whole-time Director, with the designation of Executive Director, for a three-year period.

Tata's new role will formally begin from the date on which the RBI grants its approval, or from any other date or period that the regulator may specify. His elevation brings one of the bank's experienced senior executives into a broader leadership role at a time when HDFC Bank is preparing for a change at the top.

Tata currently serves as HDFC Bank's Chief Credit Officer and brings more than 35 years of experience across banking and financial services. He has been associated with HDFC Bank since 1994, giving him more than three decades of experience within the lender.

Who Is Jimmy Tata?

Jimmy Tata began his association with HDFC Bank in 1994, joining as a Relationship Manager in the Corporate Banking Department. Over the years, he progressed through the organisation and eventually took charge of the department.

His career in financial services began before his move to HDFC Bank. Tata started working professionally in 1987 as a consultant with Strategic Consultants Pvt Ltd. Two years later, in 1989, he joined Apple Industries Ltd, where he subsequently headed its Wholesale Leasing and Hire Purchase Division.

His experience at HDFC Bank has also included a key risk-management role. Tata previously served as the bank's Chief Risk Officer and assumed that responsibility in June 2013. His subsequent stint as Chief Credit Officer has placed him at the centre of the lender's credit-related functions.
