Heavy rainfall in Dubai has led to significant disruptions in flights between India and the United Arab Emirates, affecting several airlines and a vast number of passengers. The downpour, described as intense, has caused flooding at Dubai International Airport, recognized as the world's second busiest airport by Airports Council International (ACI) with over 86.9 million passengers in 2023.

Air India, along with IndiGo, announced the cancellation of their services on Wednesday due to the adverse weather conditions impacting the Gulf nation. Air India, which schedules 72 weekly flights from various Indian cities to Dubai, had to cancel its flights on both Tuesday and Wednesday. The airline is actively working to accommodate affected passengers on subsequent flights over the next few days and has offered a one-time date change waiver for those holding valid tickets for April 16 and 17.
An official reported that a total of 10 flights from Delhi to Dubai were cancelled on Wednesday, alongside nine incoming flights from Dubai to India's national capital. The specifics of these cancellations were not immediately available. Air India Express also faced delays, with three to four of its flights on April 16 and 17 being affected. The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and has provided the option of a full refund or free rescheduling to all impacted guests.
IndiGo took to X on Wednesday to inform that all its flights to and from Dubai were cancelled due to operational challenges presented by the inclement weather and road conditions. Similarly, SpiceJet announced on X that its flights were affected by the adverse weather conditions in Dubai. There was no immediate statement from Vistara regarding its flight operations.
The unexpected heavy rains in Dubai have not only disrupted air travel but also affected daily life and operations at the Dubai International Airport. This airport was ranked as the world's second busiest in 2023, handling an impressive passenger volume, underscoring the scale at which these disruptions could impact global travel networks and the Indian diaspora residing in Dubai.
As airlines navigate through these challenging weather conditions, passengers are advised to stay updated with their respective airlines for the latest information on flight schedules and available options for rescheduling or refunds.
