Himachal Pradesh Government Seeks Urgent Funds for Irrigation and Water Supply Initiatives

Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri recently met with Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in Delhi. The meeting focused on the urgent need for funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Agnihotri highlighted that although Rs 916.53 crore was allocated for the current fiscal year, only Rs 137.48 crore had been released so far, affecting ongoing projects.

Himachal Pradesh Seeks Funds for Water Projects

Agnihotri urged the release of the first two tranches of the initial installment to ensure project completion. Patil acknowledged the issue and assured that funds would be released soon. The meeting also covered efforts by the state government to enhance irrigation facilities in Himachal Pradesh, with Agnihotri seeking generous grants from the Union minister.

Water Supply and Irrigation Projects

During discussions, Agnihotri sought approval for 67 winter water supply schemes costing Rs 517.16 crore. These schemes aim to provide consistent water supply in tribal areas of the state. He requested Patil's approval to move forward with these essential projects.

The deputy chief minister expressed gratitude for including the Phina Singh medium irrigation project under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana. He requested Rs 135 crore this fiscal year for its swift execution. Additionally, he sought approval for two more irrigation projects, Beet Area and Kuthlehar, valued at Rs 120.79 crore.

Sewerage Projects and Future Plans

Agnihotri also sought approval for five sewerage projects under the Namami Gange initiative. These projects are crucial for improving sanitation and water management in the region. Patil assured that sanction letters for these projects would be issued soon, with funds allocated in due course.

The meeting underscored Himachal Pradesh's commitment to enhancing water infrastructure and irrigation facilities. The state government is keen on securing necessary approvals and funds to ensure timely completion of these vital projects.

The discussions between Agnihotri and Patil highlighted ongoing efforts to improve water supply and irrigation in Himachal Pradesh. With assurances from the Union minister, there is optimism about receiving the required funds soon, facilitating progress in these critical areas.
