Hindustan Copper Stock Falls as Government Offers Shares at Rs 514: Check OFS Details

The selling pressure came as the Government of India opened the OFS in Hindustan Copper at a floor price of Rs 514 per share. The offer price is below the stock's previous closing level, prompting investors to reassess the near-term valuation and supply of shares in the market.

The government has fixed the OFS floor price at Rs 514 per share, creating a discount of roughly 10% to Monday's closing price.

Hindustan Copper OFS 2026: Government to Sell Up to 6% Stake

The government plans to sell a 3% stake in Hindustan Copper through the initial OFS. The sale opened for non-retail investors on August 25 and will remain available between 9:15 am and 3:30 pm.

Retail investors will get an opportunity to participate on August 26. The government has also retained an additional 3% green shoe option. If this option is fully exercised, the total stake offered could reach 6%.

A portion of the issue has been set aside for retail investors, with 10% of the base OFS size reserved for this category. Eligible employees will also have a separate reservation of 25,000 shares.

The transaction is being carried out through the stock exchange mechanism. Investors will therefore need to place their bids through their respective brokers during the applicable bidding window.

Why Is Hindustan Copper Stock Falling Today?

The immediate pressure on the stock came from the OFS floor price. At Rs 514 per share, the government offer is significantly below Hindustan Copper's previous closing price of Rs 573.55.

When a large shareholder offers shares at a discount to the prevailing market price, investors may reassess the near-term trading value of the stock. Some existing shareholders may also sell their holdings as the market adjusts to the additional supply.

However, the floor price should not be treated as the guaranteed price at which every investor will receive shares. The final outcome will depend on the bids received, demand from different investor categories and the allocation process.

The stock's movement after the OFS will also depend on how strongly institutional investors participate and whether the government decides to exercise the additional 3% green shoe option.
