If your Aadhaar card is still not linked with your Pan card, this is your last chance, as the Income Tax Department has set a firm deadline for taxpayers to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with their Aadhaar Card by December 31st this year. If the Aadhaar and PAN are not linked before the deadline arrives, your card will be potentially deactivated, causing major issues when carrying out financial transactions and other essential services.
Why Linking PAN with Aadhaar is Essential
At present, linking PAN with Aadhaar is no longer optional and is completely mandatory for all taxpayers in India. The government of India started this move to tackle the financial fraud case that has been reported by the several fintech firms that have received customer profiles without authorizations. It also makes sure that all transactions are secure and that personal details are not misused. This unauthorized access to personal data has raised serious concerns about privacy and security, which led the Ministry of Home Affairs to step in. So in order to stop such misuse and protect individuals' personal information, the government has mandated the linking of PAN with Aadhaar.

If you do not link your PAN with your Aadhaar by the deadline, your PAN will be deactivated. This means you will be unable to complete important tasks like filing your income tax return, conducting financial transactions, or applying for loans. Deactivation of the PAN will also result in penalties or legal complications, which could affect your financial standing.
How to link PAN-Aadhaar
If you haven't linked your Aadhaar and PAN card yet, here's a simple step-by-step guide you can follow in just 5 easy steps:
Step 1: Go to the official Income Tax e-filing portal: www.incometax.gov.in.
Step 2: On the homepage, you'll find a 'Quick Links' option. Click on Link Aadhaar.
Step 3: A new page will appear where you need to enter your Pan card number, AAdhar card number, and name as per AAdhar. You will need to check a box to provide your consent for linking the two documents.
Step 4: Click on Link Aadhaar status and provide your PAN and Aadhaar Card numbers on the new page.
Step 5: After entering the required information, click on "Link Aadhaar." If the details you entered are correct and match the records, your PAN will be successfully linked with your Aadhaar. You will receive a message confirming that your PAN has been linked with Aadhaar.
Checking the Link Status:
If you have already linked your Aadhaar card, you can check its status by visiting the website and clicking on the Check Status option. After entering your Aadhaar and PAN numbers, a message will appear stating that your PAN is already linked to Aadhaar. If not you can follow the step mentioned above to link it before the deadline end.
