The partnership will kick off with the FIFA World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026. Indian viewers will be able to watch matches across Zee's newly launched sports network, while digital streaming will be available on Zee5.
The deal ensures that football fans in India will have a dedicated destination for FIFA events over the next eight years, covering not just the men's World Cup but also a wide range of international tournaments.
Apart from the FIFA World Cup 2026 and 2030 editions, the rights package includes several major men's, women's and youth competitions.
Which FIFA Events Will Be Available for Indian Viewers?
Indian viewers will gain access to the FIFA Women's World Cup 2027, FIFA Men's U-17 World Cup, FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup, FIFA U-20 World Cups, FIFA Futsal World Cups and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. Official documentaries, films and special FIFA programming will also be part of the package.
In total, Zee is expected to broadcast dozens of FIFA events across television and digital platforms through 2034, creating a year-round football viewing experience for fans.
Football's popularity in India has grown steadily over the past decade, driven by global stars, European club competitions and major international tournaments.
With the FIFA World Cup expanding to 48 teams and 104 matches from 2026 onwards, fan interest is expected to rise even further. The new agreement gives Indian audiences a consistent platform to follow FIFA competitions without uncertainty over broadcasting rights before every tournament.
"We are excited to bring one of the world's biggest sporting spectacles to Indian audiences. Football cuts across regions and demographics, and the investments in garnering the media rights and launching dedicated sports channels reflect our clear belief in its long-term potential," said Zee Entertainment CEO Punit Goenka.
FIFA Sees India as a Key Growth Market
FIFA officials have repeatedly highlighted India as an important market for the sport, citing the country's young population and growing interest in football.
The latest rights agreement reflects that confidence and could help further expand the reach of international football among Indian viewers.
The previous FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where Argentina lifted the trophy under the leadership of Lionel Messi, was televised by Sports18 and streamed digitally on JioCinema. Beginning with the 2026 tournament, however, Zee will become the home of FIFA competitions in India, bringing the world's biggest football events to millions of fans across television and digital platforms.
