ICC T20 World Cup final viewership record as JioHotstar peaks at 82.1 crore

The ICC T20 men’s World Cup final set a new concurrent viewership record on JioHotstar, rising from 2.1 crore pre-match to 82.1 crore by the post-match presentation. The peak came after India secured a 96-run win over New Zealand, claiming a record third title and winning at home.

JioHotstar recorded its biggest streaming audience during the ICC T20 mens world cup final. Concurrent viewership reached 74.5 crore when New Zealand lost the last wicket. The figure later rose to 82.1 crore by the end of the post-match presentation. India sealed a 96-run win in the 19th over and lifted the title.

India won the trophy for a record third time on Sunday. India also became the only country to win the title at home. Viewership climbed through the match rather than spiking early. The platform tracked concurrent viewership, which measures how many people watched the live stream at the same time.

The build-up started well before the first delivery. Concurrent viewership stood at 2.1 crore during singer Ricky Martin’s performance. It rose to 4.2 crore when the toss took place. Even before the first ball of India’s innings, it reached 6.5 crore. That matched a previous high point on the platform.

The match then crossed earlier records during live play. It went past 6.5 crore, which came in the India vs England semi-final on JioHotstar. Peak concurrency means the highest live audience at a single time. The final also cleared an earlier ICC tournament final peak of 5.9 crore. That number came on November 20, 2023, in India vs Australia.

As India batted, the audience kept rising. Concurrent viewership reached 43.9 crore at the end of India’s innings. It nudged up to 44.3 crore during the innings break. New Zealand then started a chase of 255 runs. Viewership was 49.9 crore at the start of the chase.

The early part of New Zealand’s innings brought more viewers in. Concurrent viewership touched 50.3 crore by the end of the first over. The highest point came late in the chase. It hit 74.5 crore when the last wicket fell in the 19th over. The number then rose again during the presentation segment.

The new peak also stood above figures from earlier finals on other platforms. The 2024 T20 World Cup final had a peak concurrent viewership of 5.3 crore. That match streamed on Disney+Hotstar at the time. The 2024 final ended India’s 13-year wait for an ICC trophy. Sunday’s final set a far higher benchmark for live streaming in India.
