Ikkis War Drama: Arun Khetarpal's Legacy

The official summary for 'Ikkis' describes it as, "An untold true story of India's youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee - Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal." The narrative follows Khetarpal's role in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, where Khetarpal died in action and later received the nation's highest military gallantry honour.

The title 'Ikkis', meaning twenty-one, reflects Arun Khetarpal's age at the time of martyrdom. Raghavan's film aims to introduce younger viewers to this chapter of military history through a personal lens. The project combines frontline war scenes with intimate moments from Khetarpal's short yet impactful life.

Speaking to PTI, Sriram Raghavan stressed that the film avoids larger-than-life treatment of its subject. Raghavan said, "It's not a comic-book hero version." Instead, the director has worked to keep events rooted in documented facts from Khetarpal's service and final battle.

Raghavan explained the blend of spectacle and emotion that shapes 'Ikkis'. The director said, "It is a bigger production; there will be tank battles and all those things that happen in a war film. But it is also a human story; it's a drama, a coming-of-age kind of a thing." With its theatrical release and later OTT reach, the film is positioned to bring Arun Khetarpal's story to a wide Indian audience.
