IMD Karnataka Weather Forecast: 4 Days Of Thunderstorms & Heavy Rain Likely; Check Bengaluru weather

Karnataka weather is expected to take a sharp turn over the weekend,as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) warned of thunderstorms, heavy rain, lightning, hailstorms, and strong gusty winds across several districts in the state over the next few days.

IMD Karnataka Weather Forecast

According to the 7-day weather forecast issued by IMD, dry and sunny conditions are likely to continue across most parts of Karnataka during the daytime. However, scattered cloud formation after noon could trigger thunderstorms and rain activity at some places across the state.

Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Likely In South Interior Karnataka And Malnad

As per KSNDMC, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in several districts. Hailstorm activity has also been reported in parts of North Interior Karnataka.

The karnataka weather department has warned that isolated heavy rainfall is likely over South Interior Karnataka and Malnad regions on May 15, May 16, and May 17.

The IMD forecast states that Thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely over North Interior Karnataka (NIK)
South Interior Karnataka (SIK) is expected to witness thunderstorms and strong winds from May 15 to May 18 and Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph may continue over SIK on May 19.

Bengaluru Weather Forecast

For Bengaluru city, IMD has predicted a partly cloudy sky over the coming days. The city is likely to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds with speeds between 40-50 kmph. Residents may experience sudden evening showers, lightning activity, and temporary strong winds.

Coastal Karnataka Weather Update

IMD has also issued a weather warning for Coastal Karnataka. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places across coastal districts on May 15.

Fishing communities and coastal residents have been advised to monitor local weather bulletins before venturing into the sea.

Districts Likely To Be Affected

According to the nowcast warning issued by the Meteorological Centre Bengaluru, districts likely to witness rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds include Ballari, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Mysuru, Vijayapura, Kodagu. The department warned of possible temporary disruptions, traffic issues, uprooting of weak trees, and minor damage to kutcha houses and harvested crops lying in open areas.

Close windows and doors during lightning activity
Avoid sheltering under trees
Unplug electrical appliances during storms
Drive carefully due to reduced visibility and slippery roads
