Heavy Rain Alert in Karnataka: IMD Issues Orange Alert in Coastal Cities Till Sept 5; Bengaluru Weather Today

The monsoon season has gripped both North and South India. While the northern region is drenched in heavy showers, the southern counterpart is experiencing equally intense rainfall. Karnataka weather in the past few days has been marked by continuous downpours, especially in the coastal districts, where the IMD has issued a red alert due to very heavy rain.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru weather, which is often loved for its pleasant climate, is also witnessing a fair amount of rainfall this monsoon. The city has seen frequent spells of showers, adding to its charm while keeping temperatures moderate. Other regions of Karnataka, particularly the Malnad and interior areas, have reported scattered light to moderate rain with occasional thunderstorms.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has issued a fresh weather advisory for the coastal districts. According to the forecast issued on August 30, very heavy rainfall coupled with strong surface winds is expected in coastal Karnataka today. The region is likely to continue witnessing heavy rain spells every day till September 5, 2025, with strong winds on August 31 and September 2.

Bengaluru Weather Update

In the capital city, Bengaluru, the weather today is expected to be normal and will see light to moderate showers with partly cloudy skies over the next few days. Unlike the coastal belt, no red alert has been issued for Bengaluru weather. However, residents may experience occasional evening thundershowers, bringing relief from the heat. The temperature in the city is expected to hover between 21°C and 29°C during this period.

Interior Karnataka Likely to Stay Relatively Dry

While coastal Karnataka will see intense rainfall, the north and south interior regions of Karnataka are forecast to experience normal weather conditions. KSNDMC has clarified that there are no warnings issued for these areas from August 30 to September 5, 2025. Only light to moderate rain, along with occasional thunderstorms, is expected.

Malnad and Hilly Regions on Alert

Apart from the coastal belt, the Malnad districts are also forecast to receive scattered to widespread light to moderate rain during the next seven days. The possibility of isolated very heavy rainfall today, August 30, has been expected, especially in vulnerable hilly regions, which could lead to waterlogging and localised flooding.

Advisory for Public

IMD has warned residents about scattered moderate rain, strong winds, and thundershowers across several parts of Karnataka. Authorities have urged people living in low-lying and coastal areas to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy spells. Fishermen are also advised to be cautious due to rough sea conditions.
