IMD Issues Fresh Karnataka Weather Alert: Bengaluru To Receive Rain, Lightning & 60 Kmph Winds
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh thunderstorm and heavy rain alert. Karnataka weather across many districts including Bengaluru, Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka (NIK), and South Interior Karnataka (SIK) are under the radar.
Weather in Karnataka has been quite wet due to pre-monsoon rainfall activity over the last few days, with several districts having already reported thunderstorms, lightning conditions with strong winds.

According to IMD, this is happening because moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea are becoming stronger, while changing weather conditions ahead of the southwest monsoon are increasing rain activity across the state.
According to the latest nowcast warning issued by the Meteorological Centre Bengaluru on May 27, light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over multiple regions during the next few days.
The weather department has warned that thunderstorm activity accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph is likely to occur at isolated places over North Interior Karnataka from May 27 to May 29. Similar thunderstorm conditions are expected over South Interior Karnataka on May 27 and May 28.
From May 29 to May 31, the intensity of winds may slightly reduce, but thunderstorms along with super strong winds of 40-50 kmph are still expected over South Interior Karnataka and isolated parts of North Interior Karnataka.
Bengaluru Weather Forecast
Bengaluru weather according to IMD forecast is expected to see partly cloudy skies that are likely to become generally cloudy towards the afternoon and evening hours. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are expected in several parts of the city.
The latest nowcast warning issued at 1 PM today stated that weather activity over Bengaluru and surrounding regions could continue for the next three hours, with isolated spells of rain and thunderstorms likely to affect normal life temporarily.

- Mysuru
- Kodagu

The weather office also stated that thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning is likely over Coastal Karnataka from May 27 to May 31.
Possible Impact Of Thunderstorms
The IMD has warned that the weather system may lead to temporary disruption in electricity supply in some areas, traffic congestion, uprooting of weak tree branches, and possible damage to kutcha houses or unsecured structures.
Farmers have also been advised to protect harvested crops lying in open areas as gusty winds and rainfall could cause damage.
Safety Advisory Issued By IMD
Residents have been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary travel if possible. The weather department also urged people not to take shelter under trees or lean against concrete walls during lightning activity.
Citizens have been asked to unplug electrical and electronic appliances during thunderstorms and avoid water bodies and electrically conductive objects.
Motorists travelling during rainfall have been advised to drive carefully due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.
