IMD Weather Forecast July 14: Heavy Rain, Lightning, Thunderstorms Across Several States

In its latest weather bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall, lightning, thunderstorms, and gusty winds of up to 55km/hr over several parts of the country on July 14. According to the agency, the southwest monsoon will remain active, bringing widespread rainfall to central, eastern, north-eastern, and Himalayan states over the next few days.

On July 14, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Bihar and Odisha. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is also likely to be seen at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura and West Bengal & Sikkim. Isolated places at Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Odisha and Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.

However, the weather agency has also predicted heat wave conditions at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail at isolated places over Odisha, Rayalaseema, and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. The IMD has advised people in these areas to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun or strenuous outdoor activities, and to avoid dehydration. It has been further recommended that people use ORS or homemade drinks such as juices, lassi, lemon water, and buttermilk to keep the body cool and hydrated.

Squally winds with speed 45 to 55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, are likely to prevail over most parts of west central adjoining east central, north and some parts of south west Arabian Sea, along and off Somalia, and Oman coasts; along and off north Gujarat coasts. Meanwhile, squally weather with wind speed 40 to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the north Andhra Pradesh coasts adjoining the sea area; over the Andaman Sea.

Due to the gusty wind and heavy rainfall prediction, the IMD has warned fishermen along and off north Gujarat to stay away from the Arabian Sea on July 14 and 15, and along and off north Andra Pradesh coasts adjoining Sea Area, south Sri Lanka coasts adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal; along and off Odisha coasts during 14 to 18 July; along and off Gangetic West Bengal coasts during 15 to 18 July; over Andaman Sea during 14 to 17 July.

In the regions likely to experience heavy rain, the IMD has advised farmers to ensure proper drainage to drain out excess rainwater from fields, postpone irrigation of standing crops, and delay the application of fertilizers and pesticides until the weather conditions improve.

Despite the rainfall forecast in many states and union territories, no statewide school holiday notification has been issued so far for the affected regions this week. However, local administration may issue district-specific notifications based on the weather conditions.
