IMD Weather Update: Full List Of State-Wise School Holidays Today (27/07/2026) Amidst Heavy Rain Warnings

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in major states on Monday, July 27, 2026. This has pushed authorities in several cities to declare school holiday as precautionary measures. Although there is no school holiday nationwide and it varies from city to city. Accordingly, parents are aholidaysto stay updated on the possibility of school closure from their respective schools.

Odisha School Holiday:

IMD has issued a red alert for Odisha, and accordingly, schools in Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj districts will be shut on JULY 27. This is applicable to all government, government-aided, and private schools from primary, secondary to higher education. However, this relief is not granted to teachers, principals, and non-teacher employees, as they are required to attend their respective schools for any assistance.

Odisha Rains Alert:

While issuing 'Red' warning, IMD said, the Depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of North Odisha-West Bengal coasts moved very slowly northwards with the speed of 3 kmph during past 6 hours, intensified into a deep depression and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 27th July 2026, over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal-North Odisha coasts near latitude 21.3°N and longitude 88.1°E, about 40 km south of Sagar Island (West Bengal), 70 km east-southeast of Digha (West Bengal), 100 km south of Diamond Harbour (West Bengal), 120 km east-southeast of Balasore (Odisha) and 120 km south-southwest of Canning (west Bengal).

"It is very likely to move nearly north-northwestwards and cross West Bengal-north Odisha coasts between Balasore & Canning around afternoon of today, the 27th July 2026," IMD said.

Apart from this, ORANGE is alerted in districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Anugul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, and Kandhamal. IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nawrangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.

Gujarat Rains Today: School Holiday

Gujarat has witnessed intense spells over the past few days, with flash floods across several regions. IMD believes "Upper Air Cyclonic" system is activated in Gujarat and the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains across the state has appeared on July 27. Intense downpour is expected in major metro cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat. In south, Vapi, Umargam, Navsari, Valsad and Surat districts will be hit by heavy rains. Also, there is possibility of intense spells in Saurashtra , Bhuj, Morbi, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Una, Veraval and Kutch regions.

However, there has been no official statement regards to schools and colleges holiday. But with the likelihood of immense rains, an update regards to the operating of education system on Monday is awaited.

Maharashtra Rains: School Holiday Today

The monsoon is expected to extend its intense showers in many regions of Maharashtra. A yellow alert is issued on Mumbai, while predictions of heavy rains in Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, Kolhapur and parts of Konkan is alerted on Monday.

However, as of now, no authorities in these cities have declared school and colleges holiday. But if the situation intensifies with waterlogging scenario, chances of shutdown or half-day of schools and colleges on Monday is high.

Uttarakhand Rains: School Holiday Today

The Uttarakhand government has declared Monday as school holiday for Class 1st to 12th students at the Anganwadi centres in Bageshwar district.

Jammu and Kashmir schools to reopen on July 27

On the other hand, Jammu & Kashmir schools are set to reopen on Monday, July 27, after the government had extended the summer vacations till July 26, 2026, from earlier July 20, 2026.

IMD is predicting heavy rainfalls in states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan from July 27th to August 1st. However, the dates could vary.

For instance, isolated heavy rainfall likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on 28th July and during 31st July-1st August; Himachal Pradesh during 26th-27th July and on 1st August; Uttarakhand on 26th July and during 30th July-1st August; Haryana Chandigarh & Delhi and Punjab on 27th July and during 30th-31st July; West Uttar Pradesh on 27th July and during 31st July-1st August; East Uttar Pradesh during 31st July-1st August; West Rajasthan on 26th July and during 31st July-1st August; East Rajasthan on 28th July and on 1st August with isolated very heavy rainfall also likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad during 29th-30th July; Himachal Pradesh during 28th-31st July; Uttarakhand during 27th-29th July; Haryana Chandigarh & Delhi and Punjab during 28th-29th July; West Uttar Pradesh during 28th-30th July; East Uttar Pradesh during 27th-30th July; East Rajasthan during 29th-31st July.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places with extremely heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over Chhattisgarh on 27th July. Isolated heavy rainfall likely over West Madhya Pradesh during 28th-29th July and on 1st August; East Madhya Pradesh during 27th-28th July and on 31st July; Vidarbha during 26th-27th July and on 30th July; Chhattisgarh on 27th July and during 29th July-1st August with isolated very heavy rainfall also likely over West Madhya Pradesh during 30th-31st July; East Madhya Pradesh during 29th-30th July; Vidarbha during 28th-29th July; Chhattisgarh on 26th July and on 28th July, as per IMD.

East India:

Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Arunachal Pradesh during 27th-31st July; Assam & Meghalaya during 26th28th July and during 30th-31st July; Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 26th-28th July and on 31st July with isolated very heavy rainfall also likely over Assam & Meghalaya on 29th July; Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 29th-30th July.

West India:
