IMD Weather Warning! Heavy Rain, Hail & 80 kmph Winds Ahead; Orange Alert for Kerala, Karnataka, Delhi & More

The monsoon season has officially begun in India. Many states are now experiencing relief from the earlier heat waves, particularly in North India.

The weather department of India IMD has yet again issued alerts for many cities as the southwest monsoon 2026 is moving across the country.

Orange & Yellow Alerts Issued

Due to the rising impact of Monsson, Orange and yellow alerts have been issued for parts of Kerala and Karnataka, while Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other northwestern states may face thunderstorms, strong winds, hailstorms and dust storms over the next few days.

According to the latest IMD weather forecast, conditions are favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into more parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh during the next three to four days. The monsoon has already covered large parts of southern India and is steadily progressing northward.

Kerala & Karnataka weather Under Rain Alert

The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 7 cm to 20 cm over several regions of Kerala, Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu during the next five to seven days.

Coastal Karnataka, interior Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe are expected to receive widespread rainfall activity as monsoon conditions strengthen.

Very heavy rainfall is particularly expected over Kerala and Mahe on June 11 and June 12, while coastal Karnataka could see very heavy showers on June 12.

Strong surface winds are also expected over Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka, prompting authorities to advise residents to remain cautious in vulnerable areas.

Delhi Weather Update

Delhi weather may change dramatically over the coming days under the influence of a western disturbance. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms along with lightning, strong winds and possible hailstorm activity across Delhi-NCR and other neighbouring states.

As per the IMD alert, Wind speeds may be around 60-80 kmph during thundersquall events on June 11 and June 12 across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. Hailstorm activity has also been forecast for Delhi and adjoining regions during the same period.

Rain across northwest India is expected to continue until June 13, giving relief from heatwave conditions that have affected several northern states.

Heavy Rain Expected in Northeast India

The IMD has also issued heavy rainfall warnings for northeast India. States including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to receive widespread rainfall over the next week.
Very heavy rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh between June 11 and June 13, while Assam and Meghalaya may experience intense rain spells through June 14. Flood-prone areas have been advised to stay alert as rainfall activity intensifies.
