Professor Subhasis Chaudhari, director IIT Bombay said, "This is a rare occurrence in Indian academia that a philanthropist wishes to stay anonymous."

Subhasis Chaudhari was quick to admit that the institution never received such an anonymous donation before and calls this incident as a rare occurrence.

Subhasis Chaudhari said, "It is the first time that we have received an anonymous donation. In fact, while this is common in the USA, I don't think any university in India has received a private gift where the donor wants to remain faceless. Donors know that when they give IIT-B money, it will be used efficiently and for the right purpose."

Interestingly, it happens to be the second donation from an alumnus for IIT Bombay as last month Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani donated Rs 315 crore to the institute to mark his 50-years of association with the institution. So far , Nandan Nilekani has donated Rs 400 crore to his alma mater. IIT Bombay named their main iconic building after Nilekani due to his regular donations.

Nilekani pursued Bachelors in electrical engineering from IIT Bombay in 1973.

IIT Bombay has been ranked at fourth place in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023, which ranks all the educational institutes in India.
