Income Tax Dept Warns Against Breach In Tax E-Filing A/c
In an issued advisory, the department of income tax on Wednesday has warned against protecting their respective e-filing account from possible breach. And if such an instance is confronted the same should be reported to the police cybersecurity wing.
"If you think your e-filing account may have been compromised or accessed in an unauthorised manner, then you may be a victim of cybercrime," the department said in an advisory.
"Please report the incident to the concerned police or cyber cell authorities as a first step," it said.
The advisory comes at a time when there is less of human workforce due to Covid 19 outbreak and prominently digital platforms are being used which renders them highly vulnerable to fraudulent attacks.
"As a general precaution, please do not share your login credentials or other sensitive information," it said.
The e-filing account is independent for each taxpayer and entity and can be logged in using one's credentials by visiting the portal https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. It helps in filing ITRs as well as enable a multitude of other tax-related tasks.
Nonetheless, taxpayer can also report on the same by visiting https://cybercrime.gov.in/ that has been a government of India initiative for "for facilitating victims and complainants to report cybercrime complaints online."
Also, the advisory said that on its part the department of income tax will share information pertaining to a cybercrime incidence "with relevant law enforcement authorities when so summoned under their statutory powers of investigation."
