However, reports also suggest the government is likely planning to hike domestic cooking gas prices as well in the coming days. Worry not! The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has clarified the matter.

Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, HP Gas Cylinder Prices 2026: 14.2 kg vs 19 kg LPG

The Indian oil companies have increased LPG prices to an extraordinary level since US-Israel-Iran war started in late February 2026. Now, we are into the third month of the conflict, and LPG prices have skyrocketed to the roof. However, there is a confusion between which LPG price is hiked and which could hurt us, common citizens.

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas on May 6th said, "Regarding the LPG price hike, there has been no increase in the price of domestic cooking LPG cylinders. The recent revision applies only to commercial LPG cylinders."

So here's what you need to understand. There are three popularly used LPG cylinder sizes: 5 kg, 14.2 kg, and 19 kg. Currently, a 5 Kg gas cylinder is widely used by migrants, students and citizens who are renting but lack permanent residence.

Then come 14.2 Kg LPG cylinders, which are largely meant for domestic use and comprise almost 90% of all gas distributed, as per the Indian Oil website. Indian households use this cylinder type.

Then there are 19 Kg LPG cylinders, which are meant for industrial and commercial consumption. Also, 47.5 kg and 425 kg Jumbo cylinders are used by industries for commercial purposes. These commercial consumptions include eateries, hotels, restaurants, malls, food stalls and small-scale industries, as they require high consumption for cooking and heating needs.

There are three LPG brands in India namely Indane Gas, Bharat Gas and HP Gas.

Coming to 19 kg, this LPG has witnessed its fourth hike in less than two months since Middle East conflict. Amidst price hikes, the ministry reiterates that domestic LPG distribution continues to be normal and there have been no reports of dry-out.
