Independence Day 2024: Frequent Elections Creating Hurdles In Progress Of Nation: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation today from the rampart of the Red Fort on the occasion of 78th Independence Day. PM Modi, in his 97-minutes speech, emphasised on various aspects ranging from women safety, Viksit Bharat or developed India by 2047, Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and safety of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, among others. The Prime Minister hoisted the national flag for 11 time in a row at Red Fort on Thursday. Here are top quotes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on Independence Day:

"The Civil Code that we are living with for 75 years is actually a communal civil code. I would say that it is the need of the hour there be a secular civil code in the country. Only then would we be free of discrimination on the basis of religion."

"It is India's dream that Olympics 2036 is held in the country, we are preparing for that."

"Vocal for Local has become our mantra for self-reliance."

"The country, society, and state governments must address this matter with utmost urgency. There must be a swift investigation into crimes against women, and those responsible for these horrific acts should face strict punishment without delay."

"40 crore Indians had come together in the early part of the 20th century and threw out the most oppressive nation from their rule over us. They were 40 crore - today we are 140 crore. If 40 crore could achieve the daunting task back in the day, then today, 140 crore can ensure that the nation surges ahead."

"We are working to fulfil the aspirations of our middle-class population. We are taking steps to ensure that govt's dependence, interference and burden on the middle-class reduces, and I am confident that we will achieve this as well."

"For third term in government, only message is to serve everyone, every family and take nation to newer heights of development."

"As a neighbouring country, I can understand the concern regarding whatever has happened in Bangladesh. I hope that the situation there gets normal at the earliest. We want the government to ensure the safety of Hindus and minorities there. India always wants its neighbouring countries to walk the path of prosperity and peace."

"Request everyone to come together to achieve the resolve of 'One Nation One Election', which is the need of the hour. Frequent elections are creating hurdles in the progress of the nation. It has become easy to link any scheme/initiative with elections. There are elections somewhere every three to six months. Every work is linked to elections. The nation has to come forward for one nation, one election."

"Big companies and investors in the world want to invest in India. This is a golden opportunity. There should be competition between states to attract maximum investors. Their policies should change as per global requirements."

"When we see people come forward to help others during a pandemic like Covid - the way our Corona Warriors served those in need. When we see our soldiers doing surgical strikes, or our air force carry out airstrikes, then every Indian walks out with their heads held high."
