India to Enhance 4G Coverage Nationwide with Indigenous Tech: Scindia

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Thursday that mobile phone penetration in India has reached 70-80 per cent, with approximately 120 crore devices currently in use. The focus now is on expanding the 4G network across the country, Scindia informed reporters.

Nationwide 4G Expansion Plan

Scindia highlighted that India has developed a 4G stack using indigenous technology for the first time. Efforts are underway to extend this coverage to 100 per cent, he added. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing digital connectivity nationwide.

Development Plans for North Eastern Region

As the Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Scindia mentioned his upcoming visit to Assam and Meghalaya starting Friday. He stated, "We will formulate a strategy for development of the north-east states based on their strengths and capabilities." Decisions will be made after consultations with the respective state governments.

When asked about handling ethnic strife in Manipur, Scindia avoided a direct response but assured his commitment to the region's development. He emphasized that at least 10 per cent of Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) from Union government departments will be allocated for the north-east states' development.

Nationwide Tree Planting Campaign

In Indore, Scindia participated in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, which he described as crucial for combating climate change. The campaign, which began on June 5 and will end on July 14, aims to plant saplings nationwide, including 51 lakh in Indore alone.

"With this campaign, a world record will be created for planting trees in the country," Scindia asserted. This initiative underscores India's commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action.

Scindia's remarks reflect a broader strategy to enhance digital infrastructure and regional development while addressing environmental concerns. These efforts are part of a comprehensive approach to foster growth and sustainability across India.
