India to Approve 12 New Industrial Cities, Boosting Manufacturing Sector

The Union cabinet is anticipated to sanction 12 new industrial cities across various states this week, mirroring the models of Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh and Dholera in Gujarat. This initiative aims to enhance domestic manufacturing, according to an official source. Among these new cities, two will be established in Andhra Pradesh and one in Bihar.

Boosting Manufacturing with New Industrial Cities

The government has outlined plans in the Budget to develop plug-and-play industrial parks in or near 100 cities. This will be done in collaboration with states and the private sector to stimulate manufacturing growth. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), mentioned that eight such cities are already at various stages of implementation.

Current Developments and Future Plans

Trunk infrastructure has been completed in four cities: Dholera in Gujarat, Auric in Maharashtra, Vikram Udyogpuri in Madhya Pradesh, and Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Land plot allotment for industries is currently underway in these locations. In the remaining four cities, special purpose vehicles set up by the government are working on essential infrastructure like roads, water supply, and power connectivity.

With the addition of 12 new industrial cities announced in the Budget, the total number of these cities will rise to 20. This expansion is expected to boost the manufacturing sector's contribution to India's GDP and generate employment opportunities.

The development of these industrial hubs is part of a broader strategy to enhance domestic production capabilities. By creating well-equipped industrial zones, the government aims to attract more investments and foster economic growth across different regions.

In conclusion, the approval of these new industrial cities signifies a significant step towards strengthening India's manufacturing sector. The initiative not only aims to increase production but also seeks to create numerous job opportunities, thereby contributing to overall economic development.
