India has raised concerns regarding mobility and non-tariff barriers impacting its exporters in the EU. Discussions with Germany aim to enhance trade relations and streamline processes for smoother trade flows.
India has expressed concerns about challenges such as migration, mobility, visa processes, and non-tariff barriers affecting its exporters in the European Union (EU), particularly in Germany. Both nations have committed to collaborating on these issues to enhance trade flows, according to an official statement. These matters were discussed during a meeting between Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Germany's Minister for Foreign Affairs Johann David Wadephul, who is visiting India.

The discussions aimed at reinforcing trade and investment ties while exploring new cooperation areas like innovation, sustainability, and technology. Migration and mobility issues, along with the need for streamlined visa processes, were also highlighted. The ministers agreed to address non-tariff barriers that Indian exporters face in the EU, including Germany.
Trade Expansion Goals
Both sides have set a goal to double bilateral trade in goods, which was valued at USD 29.12 billion in 2024-25. They also aim to expand trade in services. The proposed free trade agreement between India and the EU was part of the discussions. This agreement is seen as a potential avenue to further strengthen economic ties between the two regions.
The commerce ministry emphasized that both countries are committed to resolving these issues collaboratively. This commitment is expected to facilitate smoother trade flows between India and the EU. The focus on addressing these barriers is crucial for enhancing bilateral trade relations.
The meeting underscored the importance of identifying new areas of cooperation that align with mutual interests. By focusing on sectors like innovation and sustainability, both nations aim to foster stronger economic partnerships. This approach is expected to benefit both economies by opening up new opportunities for collaboration.
In summary, India and Germany are working together to tackle challenges affecting trade relations. By addressing issues like migration, mobility, and non-tariff barriers, they aim to create a more conducive environment for trade. This collaboration is expected to lead to increased bilateral trade and stronger economic ties.
