India has been performing relatively well compared to many developed nations in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) Chairman Bibek Debroy. He made this statement while addressing a workshop organized by the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group in New Delhi on Thursday.

Developed Nations Losing Interest in SDGs
Debroy expressed concern that developed countries have lost interest in SDGs, which are supposed to be achieved by 2030. He said that India has been performing well relative to other countries in achieving SDGs, but in terms of concrete action from the rest of the world, India is not going to gain much in so far as achieving the SDGs are concerned.
2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, providing a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. Debroy acknowledged that all countries are off track compared to so-called developed countries, but India is less off track.
Reasons for Developed Countries' Loss of Interest
According to Debroy, there are several reasons why developed countries have lost interest in SDGs. These include protectionism, domestic economic problems, and geopolitical issues, which show no signs of going away. Despite this loss of interest, Debroy emphasized that SDGs are important as they are in conformity with India's developmental goals.
Some of the SDGs Goals
Some of the SDGs goals include no poverty, zero hunger, good health and wellbeing, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
India's relatively good performance in achieving SDGs is a testament to its commitment to sustainable development. However, the loss of interest in SDGs by developed nations is a cause for concern. It is important for all countries to remain committed to achieving these goals, as they are essential for creating a more sustainable and prosperous future for all.
