India-EU Free Trade Deal Today: All eyes are on the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and a series of key agreements set to be signed on Tuesday, January 27. Finalised after nearly two decades of negotiations, the landmark India-EU deal is expected to mark a major milestone in strengthening trade, investment, and strategic ties between the two sides.
The deal, once described as the "Mother of All Deals" by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, holds immense significance, particularly at a time when the global geopolitical order is rapidly evolving.

India-EU Deals Today
European Council President Antonio Luis Santos da Costa and von der Leyen will co-chair the EU-India summit along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. Here are the key outcomes that are expected.
India-EU FTA Deal
In a breakthrough, the India-EU FTA deal is likely to be finalised on Tuesday. Once the negotiations are completed, and the FTA deal is signed, the agreement is expected to go through "legal scrubbing" and "internal consultations", reported Indian Express citing sources. While the India-EU FTA deal is likely to be finalised today, it will take nearly 5-6 months for its operationalisation.
Comprehensive Strategic Agenda for 2026-27
The India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda for 2026-2030, announced in January 2026, sets out a plan to upgrade ties through five core areas covering prosperity and sustainability, technology and innovation, security and defence, connectivity, and people-to-people contacts.
Security and Defence Partnership
India and EU are also expected to announce a defence framework pact and a strategic agenda. The new partnership may include ties related to defence partnership, supply of logistics, etc.
Mobility Framework For Students
The two sides are also expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to work out on a plan to facilitate the mobility of Indians to Europe. There are expectations of launching a new cooperation framework on mobility covering students, researcher, seasonal workers, etc.
