India Expands e-Visa Entry Network to 88 Ports, Adds Bhopal, Tirupati Airports and 9 Land Checkpoints

India has expanded the entry network for foreign nationals travelling on eligible Indian e-visas by adding 11 new immigration entry points, including nine land ports and two airports. The move is aimed at making travel to India more convenient for international tourists, business travellers, medical visitors and passengers using land routes.

India e-Visa Expansion: 11 New Entry Points Added, Network Now Covers 88 Ports

With the latest additions, the number of e-visa-enabled entry points in India has increased to 88, giving eligible foreign visitors more options to enter the country without having to route their journeys through traditional major international gateways.

India Expands e-Visa Entry

List of 11 New Locations Added for India e-visa

The latest expansion includes Bhopal and Tirupati airports, along with nine land entry points across India's international borders. The newly designated land ports are Attari, Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki, Moreh and one additional notified land entry point, while Bhopal and Tirupati have been added to the airport network.

Following the expansion, India's e-visa entry network comprises 37 airports, 38 seaports and 13 land ports.

The wider network could be particularly useful for travellers whose final destinations are located away from India's largest metropolitan centres. Instead of entering through a major airport and taking another domestic flight or lengthy road journey, eligible e-visa holders can use a designated entry point closer to their destination.

The inclusion of Bhopal airport could make international travel more convenient for visitors travelling to Madhya Pradesh for tourism, business, heritage and wildlife experiences.

Tirupati airport, meanwhile, could benefit India's religious tourism sector. Tirupati is one of the country's major pilgrimage destinations, attracting visitors throughout the year. Allowing eligible e-visa holders to enter through the airport could simplify travel for overseas pilgrims and tourists.

The addition of regional gateways also supports India's broader effort to distribute international tourism activity beyond major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

Land Border E-Visa Access Expanded to Boost Cross-Border Travel and Trade

The inclusion of additional land ports is another significant aspect of the latest expansion. These checkpoints can facilitate travel from neighbouring countries and support cross-border tourism, business activity and regional trade.

Attari provides an important route on the India-Pakistan border, while Gede and Haridaspur are significant India-Bangladesh border points. Jaigaon serves the India-Bhutan border region, while Dawki is another important gateway between India and Bangladesh.

In the North-East, Moreh is a strategically important border point connecting India with Myanmar. Easier e-visa access through such locations could encourage more international visitors to explore destinations in India's border and North-Eastern regions.

India e-Visa Expansion Gives Foreign Travellers More Flexible Entry Options

The latest expansion gives eligible foreign nationals greater flexibility when planning trips to India. Travellers can potentially choose an authorised entry point that is closer to their intended destination rather than relying solely on major international hubs.

For India's tourism, hospitality, aviation, healthcare and business sectors, the expansion could help improve international connectivity with regional markets. However, the actual impact will depend on awareness among foreign travellers, smooth implementation at the newly designated ports and adequate border infrastructure.
