India to Host First Asia Pacific Aircraft Accident Investigators Meeting from October 28-31

India is set to host the Asia Pacific region's aircraft accident investigators meeting for the first time. Scheduled from October 28 to 31, this event will take place in the national capital. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), representing the Ministry of Civil Aviation, will organise this four-day Asia Pacific Accident Investigation Group (APAC-AIG) meeting.

The gathering will see participation from representatives of aircraft accident investigation bureaux across Asia Pacific countries and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). According to AAIB Director General G V G Yugandhar, various aspects of aircraft accident investigations, including processes and reporting, will be on the agenda.

Workshops and Discussions

Workshops related to aircraft accident investigations are planned for October 28 and 29. These sessions will involve officials from AAIB, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and international participants. The workshops aim to enhance understanding and collaboration among experts in the field.

On October 30 and 31, discussions will be held among representatives from ICAO member states in the Asia Pacific region and AAIB officials. These discussions are expected to focus on improving investigation techniques and sharing best practices.

Inauguration and Participation

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu will inaugurate the meeting on October 28. Approximately 90 delegates are expected to attend, with around 60 coming from various Asia Pacific countries. This diverse participation underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in aviation safety.

AAIB plays a crucial role in classifying safety occurrences involving aircraft operating in Indian airspace into accidents, serious incidents, and incidents. It conducts thorough investigations into accidents and recommends measures to enhance safety standards.

Current Investigations

Currently, AAIB is managing around 25 aircraft accident investigations. Among these is the investigation into the tragic Air India plane crash on June 12 that resulted in 260 fatalities. The bureau's ongoing efforts highlight its commitment to improving aviation safety through meticulous investigation processes.

This meeting marks a significant step for India in hosting such an important international event. It provides a platform for exchanging knowledge and strengthening cooperation among countries in the Asia Pacific region regarding aircraft accident investigations.
