India Not To Import Butter And Other Dairy Products To Tap Domestic Sector To Improve Supplies: Rupala

The government would not import dairy products like butter, according to Union Minister Parshottam Rupala, who made this clear on Friday as per PTI. Instead, supplies will be boosted with the aid of a sizable untapped domestic market. The claim that there is a shortage of dairy products is untrue. Rupala, who oversees the ministries of fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairying, told reporters outside of an event that there will be no imports.

He claimed that there is no milk scarcity in the nation and that the government keeps an eye on the situation. There is now more of a demand. We will attempt to tap into the vast unexplored area that we have.He assured farmers and customers that it would be well managed and that they should not be concerned. The minister stated that consumers shouldn't be concerned about dairy product price increases.

On April 8, the government provided clarification about claims that India may be considering importing a limited amount of dairy products due to supply issues brought on by the sluggish milk production over the previous fiscal year. Official statistics show that the country's milk production increased by 6.25 percent to 221 million tonnes in 2021-2022 from 208 million tonnes the previous year.

In a press conference, Singh stated that the lumpy skin disease in cattle caused the country's milk production to stagnate in the fiscal year 2022-2023 while the domestic demand increased by 8-10% during the same time due to a recovery in post-pandemic demand.

There is no actual restriction on milk supply in the nation. The supply of skim milk powder (SMP) is sufficient. However, he had noted that stockpiles of dairy products, particularly fats like butter and ghee, were lower than they had been the year before.
