Amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions following India's Operation Sindoor, authorities in Jammu Kashmir have declared that schools and colleges across several sensitive districts in Kashmir, Jammu, and Punjab will remain closed on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. This is a precautionary measure after India launched precision strikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Schools, Colleges Closed in 3 Kashmir Districts
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhur announced that All educational institutions, including schools and colleges, in Baramulla, Kupwara, and Gurez districts of Kashmir have been closed for the day and residents are asked to remain calm and follow official advisories.

Take a Poll
Similarly authorities in Punjab have also ordered school closures in Ferozepur, Pathankot, and Amritsar. According to officials, all schools in Ferozepur and Pathankot will remain shut, with Pathankot's closure extended for 72 hours as a precautionary move amid rising cross-border tension as reported by Mint.
Flight Operation across India Disrupted
Commercial flight operations across several North Indian cities have been significantly impacted post Operation Sindoor. The widespread closures come just hours after the Indian Armed Forces carried out a high-level counter-terrorism strike named Operation Sindoor which was launched in retaliation to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 innocent tourists and civilians lost their lives.
Sixteen airports, including key hubs like Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Amritsar, and Chandigarh, have been shut to civilian flights, leading to widespread cancellations and rerouting of both domestic and international flights. IndiGo has canceled approximately 160 domestic flights, while Air India has suspended operations to and from several affected cities until further notice. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates and alternative arrangements. The situation remains tense with authorities closely monitoring developments and issuing advisories as necessary.
Security Heightened, Further Announcements Expected
With the geopolitical situation still developing, officials in all three states have indicated that further advisories and restrictions may follow depending on how the conflict evolves. Parents and students are advised to remain updated through official channels regarding reopening schedules or exam rescheduling announcements.
