India's Direct Selling Industry Ranks 12th Globally, Surpasses Retail Sales Of US $3.25bn

The direct selling industry of India in terms of retail sales surpassed the value of US $3.25 billion in 2021. Also, it stood at the 12th place among global direct sellers in global ranking as per the report issued by the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA).

Of the top 15 direct selling nations, India logged the highest CAGR of 15.7% over a 3-year period, said the report. The year-on-year growth clocked by India's direct selling industry has also been the maximum at 7.7%. Further the report also gave heed to the fact that despite the pandemic led disruptions, India depicted resilience and logged the maximum annualised growth among nations that report retail sales more than US $3 billion.

Amway, Tupperware, Modicare, Herbalife are some of the direct selling players in the country.In the Asia Pacific region, India ranked sixth while the top ranks were held by nations such as Korea, China, Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan. Globally, the list is topped by the US with a market share of 23% and retail sales at US $42.67 billion. On on overall basis, the global direct selling industry logged 1.5% marginal growth.

The Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA) in a statement said, "India's direct selling market is growing steadily and will likely be among the top five international markets in the next decade".

"The growth reaffirms industry's commitment while protecting consumer interests and those of the direct sellers," IDSA chairman Rajat Banerji said.
