The country's premier skill competition, IndiaSkills, is set to commence this Wednesday, drawing in over 900 students from more than 30 states and Union Territories. This event marks a significant milestone in the national skill landscape, offering a platform for participants to demonstrate their abilities across a wide spectrum of 61 skills. These range from traditional crafts to the most advanced technologies, highlighting the diverse talent pool within the nation.

IndiaSkills Begins Wednesday

The four-day event will not only serve as a national showcase but also as a preparatory ground for the winners. With the support of industry trainers, these skilled individuals will gear up for the WorldSkills Competition, which is to be held in Lyon, France, in September 2024. This global event is expected to gather 1,500 competitors from over 70 countries, offering a broader stage for showcasing skills.

According to an official statement, the competitions at IndiaSkills will be split between onsite and offsite venues. Specifically, 47 skills competitions will take place onsite, while 14 will be conducted offsite across Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. This decision was made to take advantage of the best infrastructure available for each category. Additionally, participants will engage in 9 exhibition skills including drone-filming making, textile-weaving, leather-shoemaking, and prosthetics-makeup.

Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), emphasized the importance of IndiaSkills Competition in opening new avenues for skilled youth. He highlighted how this platform empowers participants to explore opportunities beyond conventional boundaries and showcase their talents on a global scale.

This year introduces an exciting opportunity for participants to earn credits within the National Credit Framework, as stated by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The competition witnessed a staggering registration of about 2.5 lakh candidates on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) Portal. Following a rigorous pre-screening process, 26,000 candidates were shortlisted to compete in this prestigious event.

The IndiaSkills competition not only serves as a testament to the vast pool of talent across the nation but also plays a crucial role in preparing India's youth for international platforms. By fostering an environment that nurtures skill development and innovation, India continues to strengthen its position in the global vocational training landscape.
