In a significant move to enhance technological cooperation, the Union Cabinet of India has approved two separate agreements with Tanzania and Saudi Arabia. These agreements aim to foster collaboration in the fields of digital public infrastructure, digitization, and electronic manufacturing.

Cooperation with Tanzania: Enhancing Digital Public Infrastructure

The agreement between India and the United Republic of Tanzania focuses on digital public infrastructure (DPI). A memorandum of cooperation (MoC) was signed on October 9, 2023, between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of India and the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Information Technology of Tanzania. This collaboration aims to share successful digital solutions implemented at a population scale for digital transformation.

The MoU seeks to promote closer cooperation and exchange of experiences in digital technologies-based solutions. It will enhance bilateral cooperation in DPI between the two governments and businesses. The activities under this agreement will be financed through regular operating allocations of both administrations.

This partnership leverages India's leadership in implementing DPI and its successful delivery of services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Technological infrastructure and solutions like Aadhaar, UPI, and CoWin can assist partnering governments in improving governance and public service delivery.

Collaboration with Saudi Arabia: Digitization and Electronic Manufacturing

The Cabinet also approved a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) signed on August 18, 2023, between MeitY and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This agreement aims to strengthen collaboration in various areas, including digitization, electronic manufacturing, e-governance, smart infrastructure, e-health, and e-education.

The MoC intends to promote partnerships in research on digital innovation and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, cloud computing, and blockchain. It establishes a framework for cooperation in digitization and electronic manufacturing, fostering partnerships between India and Saudi Arabia.

The agreement seeks to promote innovative training and development through e-teaching, e-learning, and exchange programs in digitization and electronics manufacturing. It also aims to develop joint training programs for capacity building and access to highly skilled IT and telecom technologies professionals.

Furthermore, the MoC aims to strengthen the SME and start-up ecosystem by sharing information on business accelerators, venture capital, and incubators of technology startups. This collaboration has the potential to generate employment opportunities for both countries.

The agreements with Tanzania and Saudi Arabia underscore India's commitment to fostering international cooperation in the technology sector. By sharing expertise and leveraging technological advancements, these partnerships will contribute to improved governance, enhanced public services, and economic growth for all parties involved.
