India and UAE Strengthen Educational Ties with Degree Recognition Plans

India and the UAE are enhancing their educational collaboration by establishing IIT and IIM campuses in Dubai. This initiative signifies a robust partnership that aims to achieve mutual recognition of degrees between the two nations. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced these developments at the Dubai-India Business Forum in Mumbai.

India and UAE Plan Degree Recognition

Goyal highlighted that the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) will soon open a campus in Dubai. "IIT has started the campus in Dubai, today we decided and will soon have Indian Institute of Management IIM in Dubai...all of this reflect deep connect between two nations...and I am sure this will grow our relationship to mutually recognising degrees in UAE and India and will take this to next level," he stated.

Strengthening Defence and Strategic Ties

On Tuesday, India and the UAE also agreed to enhance their defence cooperation. Discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum focused on potential co-development of military equipment. These talks aimed at strengthening ties in strategic areas.

The mutual recognition of degrees would enable professionals like doctors from both countries to practice without needing extra qualifications. This step is expected to facilitate smoother professional exchanges and opportunities across borders.

Expanding Trade and Investment Opportunities

The minister encouraged businesses from both countries to explore significant trade and investment opportunities. Key sectors for potential collaboration include nuclear energy, critical minerals, renewable energy, green hydrogen, artificial intelligence, fintech, and food security.

Three years ago, India and the UAE implemented a free trade agreement. This agreement has laid a strong foundation for further economic cooperation between the two nations. The ongoing efforts aim to build upon this foundation to enhance bilateral trade relations.

The establishment of educational institutions like IIT and IIM in Dubai reflects the deepening ties between India and the UAE. These initiatives are expected to foster greater educational exchange and collaboration, benefiting students and professionals from both countries.
