India-US Sign 3 Deals At Trump's 2-Day Visit To India

On Tuesday, India and the US inked three MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) including one in the energy sector, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that the two countries have decided to take Indo-US ties to comprehensive global partnership level.

Trump announced that the two countries have finalised defence deals where India will purchase equipment worth $3 billion from the US.

"Defence cooperation between two countries is reflective of rising strategic partnership between India and US. We also agreed on new mechanism to contain drug trafficking" Modi said.

At the start of official talks, Modi welcomed the US president and thanked him for taking time out for the visit to India.

President Donald Trump, who is on a two-day official visit to India, was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla told reporters on Tuesday that the two leaders held talks for five hours on agreements in five major categories - security, defence, energy, technology and people to people contact

Shringla told reporters that the two countries have also decided to set up working groups on curbing narcotics trafficking and reinvigorating homeland security, he told reporters.

"President Trump has assured highest consideration to India for procurement, technology and joint collaboration in defence sector," he said.
