IndiaAI Strengthens Safe AI Initiatives with Deepfake Detection and Bias Mitigation Projects

IndiaAI has announced the selection of five projects in the second round of Expression of Interest (EoI) under its 'Safe and Trusted AI' initiative. These projects, which include tools for detecting deepfakes and mitigating bias, were chosen from over 400 proposals submitted by academic institutions, start-ups, research organisations, and civil society groups.

The EoI was launched on December 10, 2024, focusing on several critical themes. A multi-stakeholder committee was established to evaluate the proposals, leading to the selection of five projects. These projects involve collaborations between institutions such as IIT Jodhpur CI & IIT Madras, IIT Mandi & Directorate of Forensic Services Himachal Pradesh, and IIT Kharagpur for developing a deepfake detection tool.

Focus on Safe and Trusted AI

Additional selected proposals include Digital Futures Lab and Karya for bias mitigation, as well as Globals ITES Pvt Ltd and IIIT Dharwad for penetration testing and evaluation. These initiatives aim to enhance real-time deepfake detection, improve forensic analysis, reduce bias in AI models, and develop robust evaluation tools for generative AI.
