In the financial year 2024-25, Indian airlines reported a cumulative loss of Rs 5,289.73 crore, primarily driven by Air India Group's significant losses. Despite this, four operators reported profits.

This information was shared in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol.

Profit and Loss Dynamics in Indian Aviation

Other operators that incurred losses included Fly91 with Rs 67.65 crore and Quikjet Cargo with Rs 1.34 crore. On the profitable side, IndiGo achieved a profit of Rs 7,253.30 crore. Star Air earned Rs 68.75 crore, Blue Dart made Rs 0.71 crore, and IndiaOne Air gained Rs 0.33 crore in profits.

The figures mentioned take into account extraordinary items affecting financial outcomes. The Union minister informed CPI-M member John Brittas that airfares in India's deregulated aviation market are not fixed or regulated by the government but are determined by airlines based on demand-supply dynamics and other commercial factors.

The financial performance of these airlines highlights the varied impact of market conditions on different operators within the industry. While some airlines managed to secure profits, others faced significant losses due to various operational challenges and market dynamics.

This financial data underscores the complexities and competitive nature of India's aviation sector, where profitability can vary widely among different carriers depending on their operational strategies and market positioning.
