Indian Electric Two-Wheelers Lead Globally in Design and Tech, Ather Co-Founder Asserts

In a significant statement made in Nagpur on June 22, Swapnil Jain, co-founder of Ather Energy, positioned Indian electric two-wheelers at the forefront of the global market. Speaking at the Meet Rizta event, attended by Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari, Jain underscored India's potential to lead in electric vehicle (EV) design and technology. The event also served as a platform for Ather to unveil its latest offerings: the family scooter Rizta and the innovative Halo helmet.

Indian E-Two Wheelers Lead Globally

Jain's remarks highlighted the supportive role of the Indian government in fostering the growth of the EV industry, despite a reduction in subsidies. He emphasized the strength and innovation of Indian electric two-wheelers, suggesting that India is well-positioned to outperform international competitors. "Indian electric two-wheeler is better than any electric two-wheeler in the world," Jain stated, pointing out the opportunity for India to become a technology exporter.

The potential for India to surpass foreign countries in EV technology and design was a key focus of Jain's address. He elaborated on how the electric two-wheeler industry could serve as a catalyst for advancing other sectors, including semiconductor, software, cell manufacturing, and energy industries. According to Jain, the EV industry should be viewed not merely as part of the automobile sector but as a pivotal force capable of driving technological innovation across various industries in India.

Ather Energy's growth trajectory was also discussed, with Jain revealing a 30 percent increase in EV sales last year, amounting to approximately 115,000 units. The positive reception of the Ather Rizta and the company's production capacity of 400,000 units underscored his optimism for future sales. Jain further shared plans for expansion into the South Asian market, noting that sales had already begun in Nepal.

This assertion by Ather Energy's co-founder not only showcases the advancements made by Indian manufacturers in the electric two-wheeler segment but also highlights India's evolving role as a hub for technological innovation and export in the global market. With continued support from the government and strategic expansion plans, India's electric two-wheeler industry is poised for significant growth and international recognition.
