Government Revamps National Startup Advisory Council, Appoints 31 New Members

The Indian government has reconstituted the national startup advisory council with 31 non-official members, including prominent entrepreneurs, investors, and academicians, to provide guidance on fostering innovation and supporting startups in the country.

Revamped Startup Advisory Council to Boost Indias Innovation Ecosystem

On Monday, the Indian government reconstituted the National Startup Advisory Council (NSAC) by appointing 31 non-official members. These members include prominent individuals from the startup ecosystem, such as Abhiraj Singh Bhal from Urban Company and Kunal Bahl from Snapdeal.

Establishment of the NSAC

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) established the NSAC in January 2020. The council's primary objective is to advise the government on measures necessary to foster a robust ecosystem that nurtures innovation and startups in India.

Composition of the NSAC

The non-official members of the NSAC are appointed for a two-year term. As the previous term has concluded, the central government has nominated new members representing various stakeholder groups. These groups include successful startup founders, experienced entrepreneurs who have scaled companies in India, individuals capable of representing investor interests in startups, and representatives from industry associations like the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Upcoming NSAC Meeting

The eighth meeting of the NSAC is scheduled to take place on December 19 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Commerce and Industry. The council convenes regularly to propose measures that encourage a culture of innovation among citizens and students and promote innovation across all sectors of the economy, including semi-urban and rural areas.

The reconstitution of the NSAC with new non-official members brings together a diverse group of experts and stakeholders from the Indian startup ecosystem. Their insights and recommendations will be instrumental in shaping policies and initiatives that support innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.
