Boost for Agriculture Startups as Indian HEIs Agree to Create Agri-Consortium

During the recently concluded Agri-Entrepreneurship in South Asia Consortium-2023, India's higher educational institutions agreed in principle to form an 'Agri-Consortium'. This initiative aims at promoting startups within the agricultural sector. The consortium will serve as a platform for sharing information on agtech startups supported by member institutions from different parts of India.

On Wednesday, India's higher educational institutions (HEIs) came together to agree in principle on the creation of an Agri-Consortium. This initiative is aimed at bolstering startups in the agricultural sector. The decision was made during the Agri-Entrepreneurship in South Asia Consortium-2023 which concluded at the Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur.

A Collaborative Framework for Agricultural Advancement

Agri-Consortium

The two-day event served as a common platform for academicians, researchers, students and industry professionals to interact and deliberate on various aspects pertinent to the agriculture industry. The discussion revolved around latest trends and advancements in technology, research needs, funding avenues and other requirements in this sector. The participating HEIs adopted an 'in-principle' framework towards forming this consortium.

Sharing Resources for Mutual Growth

The HEIs agreed upon sharing startup databases among consortium members as part of their collaboration efforts. They would also disseminate startup support programs and networking opportunities along with sharing best practices through this platform. All these activities are directed towards fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the agricultural domain.

An Initiative by FIED & Ministry of Agriculture

This event was organized by Foundation for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development (FIED), an incubation centre under IIM Kashipur's aegis, working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. This collaborative effort aims to provide a nurturing environment that encourages innovation while addressing challenges faced by farmers.

Unlocking Opportunities Through Collaboration

Kulbhushan Balooni, Director of IIM Kashipur expressed his thoughts on this initiative saying "This Agri Consortium will serve as a platform for sharing information on agri-startups supported by member higher education institutions from different parts of the country." He further added that it opens avenues of collaboration between startups from different regions, thereby fostering a spirit of cooperation and mutual growth.

In conclusion, the creation of the Agri-Consortium is a significant step towards boosting India's agrarian economy. By providing much needed support to agri-startups and fostering innovation within this sector, it aims to transform the face of Indian agriculture. The consortium exemplifies how collaborative efforts can unlock new opportunities and drive progress in key sectors like agriculture. It sets an excellent precedent for other industries to follow suit and leverage collective resources for greater impact.
