Indian Railway Budget 2020: Railway to run 100 % zero pollution network by 2024
The railway minister stated recently that the nation was underway to rapidly electrify the train network at the Business Forum between India and Brazil. Until 2024, he also said, the infrastructure of Indian Railways would be 100% electrified. Indian Railways, chaired by Piyush Goyal, is watching Indian Railways' full electrification networks throughout the country.
This ensures that the whole network of Indian Railways across the world must run on electricity by 2024, which gives the nation a pollution-free environment. A couple of months ago Goyal said that railway electrification was 680 km in the fiscal year 2013-14, but the Modi administration electrified 5,200 kilometres of trains last year in a major improvement. Ironically, Indian Railways will be the first railway in the world to run on energy, of this size and scale, the Minister stated.
Therefore, clean energy and clean power are used by the national transporter. The Minister had stated that the national transporter is consuming almost 1.27%of the total country's electricity usage. This has also shown that the national carrier needs 3% High-Speed Diesel (HSD) oil in terms of energy requirements. Goyal has previously stated that numerous energy-efficient measures have been taken by the Railway Minister in order to reduce the carbon emissions.
While part of its target of an environmentally friendly mode of transport, Indian Railways pursues these steps. Goyal reported that, over the financial year 2018-19, Indian Railways used almost 20.44 billion electricity units and also 3.1 billion litres of HSD oil for its energy consumption. The Railway Ministry is preparing to electrify 100% of Indian Railways ' broad gauge routes to make green India transport.
