Indian Railways Announces Historic Increase in Summer Train Trips

The Railway Ministry of India has announced plans to operate a record-breaking number of train trips. With a commitment to ensuring the convenience of passengers, the ministry will be running an unprecedented 9,111 trips, marking a significant increase of 43% compared to the previous year," the Railway Ministry said in a statement.

The decision to augment train services comes in response to insights gathered from various communication channels, including media reports, social media platforms, and the Railway Integrated helpline number 139.

The ministry wants to customise its services to match the changing demands of travellers around the nation. One way it does this is by evaluating demand signals from sources like waitlist passengers in the Passenger Reservation System (PRS).

These additional train trips have been meticulously planned to connect key destinations, facilitating seamless travel along major railway routes.

The Western Railway will lead the pack with 1,878 trips, followed closely by the North Western Railway with 1,623 trips. Other significant contributors include the South Central Railway with 1,012 trips and the East Central Railway with 1,003 trips.

The expanded train services will cater to the summer travel rush originating from states such as Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi.

By strategically deploying additional trains, Indian Railways aims to alleviate congestion and ensure a smooth travel experience for passengers during the busy summer months.

In addition to increasing train frequencies, the ministry is also focused on enhancing passenger amenities at railway stations. Measures include ensuring the availability of drinking water and implementing elaborate crowd control arrangements.

Senior officers will be stationed at major stations to oversee operations and regulate crowds effectively.

To maintain order and safety, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will be deployed at originating stations to manage queues and monitor crowded areas via CCTV surveillance.

Furthermore, instructions have been issued to deploy Government Railway Police (GRP) and RPF personnel at foot-over bridges to prevent stampede-like situations during peak travel periods.

Indian Railways is still dedicated to giving every traveller a convenient and enjoyable travel experience.

Tickets for these additional trains can be booked through railway ticket counters or the IRCTC website or app, offering travellers greater flexibility and accessibility in planning their journeys.

As the ministry continues its efforts to adapt to changing travel patterns and evolving passenger needs, the operation of these highest-ever summer train trips underscores Indian Railways' dedication to delivering efficient and reliable transportation services across the country.
