Indian Stock Market Outlook Next Week, Sept 28 - Oct 1: Sensex, Nifty May Remain Volatile Amid FII Selling
Indian equities enter the next trading week under continued pressure, with the Nifty and Sensex extending their losing streak to seven consecutive weeks. The weakness has also spread beyond the benchmark indices, with midcap and smallcap stocks facing intense selling during the week. The Nifty Microcap 250 was a notable exception, managing to close the week in positive territory despite the broader market remaining weak.
Indian Stock Market Outlook Next Week, September 28 to October 1, 2026: Sensex, Nifty Weekly Prediction
As investors prepare for the September 28 to October 1 trading week, global bond yields, foreign fund selling, domestic institutional buying and developments in the insurance sector are likely to remain among the key factors influencing market sentiment. The sharp rise in the US 10-year bond yield has remained a major overhang, with the yield moving towards levels not seen since 2007.

US Bond Yields Remain Major Market Trigger
The rise in the US 10-year bond yield remained one of the biggest concerns for equities during the week. The yield has been moving higher amid sticky inflation, heavy government borrowing and changing expectations around the Federal Reserve's policy stance.
Higher US yields can make risk-free returns more attractive compared with equities and can also encourage foreign investors to move capital away from emerging markets. This has added pressure to Indian equities, particularly high-multiple and growth-oriented segments of the market.
The impact was visible across the broader market this week, with midcaps and smallcaps coming under considerable selling pressure. However, the positive performance of the Nifty Microcap 250 showed that selective buying interest continued in some parts of the market.
FII Selling Continues For Fifth Week
Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers for the fifth consecutive week, selling Indian equities worth Rs 11,490 crore. The continued selling has added to the pressure on the domestic market at a time when global yields are rising.
Domestic institutional investors, however, continued to provide support. DIIs bought equities worth Rs 16,398 crore during the week, counterbalancing a significant portion of the foreign outflows.
The divergence between FII and DII flows will remain an important factor to watch as trading resumes next week. Sustained foreign selling alongside strong domestic buying could continue to create volatility across the benchmark and broader indices.
IRDAI Proposal Puts Insurance Stocks Under Pressure
Developments in the insurance sector also emerged as an important domestic market trigger. An IRDAI consultation paper has raised concerns among investors about the potential impact of proposed changes to distribution commissions and Expense of Management limits.
The proposed framework aims to reduce customer costs through regulatory caps on distribution commissions and lower EoM ceilings. For life insurers, the proposed EoM ceiling is set to decline to 12.5% over five years.
The proposals also include tighter restrictions on bancassurance and a ban on compulsory loan bundling. These changes have raised concerns over the potential impact on distributor revenue margins and the near-term earnings outlook for insurance companies.
The sharp sell-off in insurance stocks during the week reflects the market's reaction to these proposed changes. The sector is therefore likely to remain closely watched during the next trading week.
Nifty Weekly Prediction
The Nifty extended its losing streak for the seventh consecutive week, declining 0.88% over the week. The index remained under selling pressure and is currently trading below its 21-day, 55-day, 100-day and 200-day EMAs, indicating continued weakness in the technical structure.
The 23,000 level will remain an important support zone in the coming week. A break below this level could increase selling pressure and bring 22,600 into focus. On the higher side, 23,450 is the key resistance level to watch.
"On the downside, 23000 remains the immediate support and a psychological level. A breach below this zone could intensify selling and drag the index towards 22600. On the upside, 23450 is the key resistance to watch. As long as Nifty sustains below this level, the broader weakness remains intact, with a sell on rise strategy preferred," said Dr. Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer from Master Capital Services Ltd.
Bank Nifty Weekly Outlook
Bank Nifty also remained under pressure, declining 1.38% and extending its losing streak to five consecutive weeks. The index continues to trade below its key moving averages, with the 21-day and 55-day EMAs pointing towards a weak trend structure.
For the coming week, 55,000 remains the immediate support and an important psychological level. A decisive break below this zone could bring 54,400 into focus. On the upside, 56,800 remains the key resistance.
"A decisive break below this zone could intensify selling pressure and drag the index towards 54400. On the upside, 56800 remains the key level to watch. As long as the index sustains below this resistance, the preferred strategy remains sell on rise. Any bounce towards the 56100-56200 zone could provide an opportunity to initiate fresh short positions," said Expert. Ravi Singh.
