Indian Techies Working On H-1B Visa Can Sigh A Relief: Biden To See To Delays In Green Card Processing
There is good news for Indians working in the US on the H-1B visa as the US President is likely to oversee the inordinate delays in the processing system of the Green Card, said the White House. A Green card also known as a permanent resident card is a document issued to the US immigrants and is an authorization to live in the country permanently.
In the current immigration system, Indian techies suffer the most brunt as the system levies a seven per cent per country quota with regard to the allotment of the coveted Green Card. "The president absolutely wants to address the delays in the Green Card processing system as well," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters at her daily news conference on Friday.
She was replying to a question on the wastage of as many as 80,000 unused employment-based Green Card numbers that is in fact officially legal permanent residency on October 1. This is as several million people are still waiting to be allocated the Green Card but the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is unable to assign them.
The delay in the issuance of Green card for talented Indians sometime spanning several decades is a major hurdle being faced by the Indian Americans and their dependents living there.
